My Morning Download 9/7/06 - Dr. Dog

Each weekday, My Morning Download introduces you to some of the coolest new music on the web. We clear through the noise so you don't have to. Meet one of our favorite Philly Local bands, Dr. Dog

Dr. Dog has been creating music for nearly six years now. From the humble beginnings of their album The Psychedelic Swamp through their acclaimed 2005 release Easy Beat the band has cultivated a strong national following. They spent the better part of 2006 in the studio cooking up two new releases: a six song EP called TAKERS AND LEAVERS, which will be released next week on September 12th and a yet full album due in February of 2007.

In the spring of 2004 the band was invited to tour with My Morning Jacket after MMJ front man Jim James heard Dr. Dog’s album Toothbrush. When Easy Beat was released magazines like Rolling Stone, Spin, Alternative Press, and Fader gave it rave reviews. The Philadelphia Inquirer and New York Times sang the band's praise.

Dr. Dog's new EP, Takers And Leavers was produced by Dr. Dog with engineering and mixing help from long time friend Bill Moriarty. It's filled with Beatle-esque psychedelic pop songs. They tour this month in support of the EP beginning with a co-headline run up the west coast in early September with Cold War Kids followed by a tour supporting The Raconteurs.
